History and Mission Statement
History
IVF Phoenix along
with its sister organization, Endometriosis and Reproductive Surgery Specialists, was
created in May of 1993 under the direction of Dr. John L. Couvaras, M.D. Permanent space
was acquired in December of 1993 and offices were moved in February, 1994. The facility
included medical offices, ultrasound, fully equipped andrology and in-vitro fertilization
laboratory, in-office egg retrieval, cryopreservation and storage, and a micromanipulation
station for assisted hatching and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Our first Assisted
Reproductive Technologies (ART) procedure was performed at Paradise Valley Hospital; 13
days later, a positive pregnancy test was obtained and twins, a boy and girl, were
delivered in October of 1994. Since that time, many other ART procedures such as in-vitro
fertilization (IVF) with embryo transfer (ET), Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT),
Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) have
been performed with similar success.
